A pitch is the way to deliver a business plan verbally. It is a short and effective presentation where an entrepreneur or group of entrepreneurs present or describe their ideas to prospective investors or clients. The #1 goal of a pitch is to get the right people excited about your business.
There are different types of ways to pitch such as; an elevator pitch which is a very short pitch that distils the idea into a short summary that takes only as long as a short elevator ride or a video pitch which is a pitch done via a short video rather than in person. Regardless of the means chosen to pitch, the aim is typically the same; describing a business opportunity with the intention of securing funding to develop the idea further.
A solid pitch helps entrepreneurs demonstrate experience and capabilities, determine the viability of a business idea, quickly gain valuable feedback, and stand out from the crowd.
A lot of the time people don’t understand why it’s important to be able to pitch well. The reality is that you need to be able to pitch to customers, whether they be companies or individuals. If you can’t pitch to an investor, they will be worried that you won’t be able to bring anyone else on board.
This competition is created to coach entrepreneurs in the techniques necessary to present a successful pitch in order to secure funding from investors. Fact is the investors are being pitched to left, right and centre every day of the week. You have to really work on how you make your pitch stand out, how you make sure that within the first fifteen seconds you’ve got them listening to you.
"Pitch2Win" is a unique contest intended to draw out the brightest minds and greatest ideas our country has to offer. In this event, you will have a chance to pitch your idea and get feedback on how to improve your pitching style. Hugely successful last year, this year’s competition will pack a punch with its intensive pitching mentorship sessions or "Pitch Clinic"s.
Mentors will be available for the Pitch Clinic sessions where they will give helpful tips, guidelines and the tricks of the trade. Participants will have a chance to practice their pitches and gain feedback from the mentors in these sessions. Participants will be graded on their performance and progress during each pitch clinic by their mentors. The event will see aspiring entrepreneurs deliver their best “elevator pitch” to a panel of judges who will decide the winners of the competition. Mentors will be individuals with extensive experience in business idea development and pitching. There will be five judges who have been selected based on their understanding of tech start-up culture and their own recent involvement with entrepreneurship.
